With the advancement going on the field of science and tech, handy GPS units are there to help you out in such situations. But let's face it, with so many options available in the market what would be the right choice for you?

Now before you go right off in the market to get yourself one of these, there are certain things you should keep in mind. First is the price range. Now that GPS units have become popular, they range from $100 to $1000 plus. Buying one which suits your budget is a wise thing to do rather than spending on something that you will have to regret later. Moreover, you can buy a decent GPS unit in the range of $150 to $300.

Another consideration while buying a GPS unit is your travel plans. For casual travelling needs, a low-cost GPS unit with the basic features would be a perfect choice. On the contrary, if travelling is a part of your lifestyle, you should go for a high end model loaded with all the best options. However, keep the price in context while making a purchase.

Next on the checklist are technical specifications. There are basically two categories of GPS units, namely ones with the touch screen having a 3.5cm touch panel and ones with dedicated keys for their specified functions. Another thing that matters here is that whether you are looking for a handheld device or something you can install in your car. Nevertheless, going for something with a simple and user friendly interface should be a top priority here.

Interface is important when you buy gadgets. The basic two types available in the market are one with touch panel and a screen size of 3.5cm. The other one does not support touch panel interface but instead has buttons to do the job. Buy the one which suits you and can be easily used by you. You should keep in mind other features like navigation of maps and voice audibility.

You can't deny the fact that if you decide to pay more, you will get more out of it. So if you have enough financial assets and you can buy a high-end GPS unit go for it. It will come with extra features like language translation, voice commands, trip reports, weather and traffic upgrades.
